तारेक फतह का निधन हो गया - Tarek Fatah, a Pakistani-Canadian writer, passed away on 24th APR 2023 at age of 73, prompting an outpouring of condolences and tributes

Tarek Fatah, a Canadian-Pakistani journalist and author, espoused support for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, called for a clear separation between religion and state, opposed the implementation of sharia law, and advocated for a more liberal and progressive interpretation of Islam.

Born on November 20, 1949, in Karachi, Pakistan, Tarek Fatah later migrated to Canada in the early 1980s, where he made a name for himself as a political activist, journalist, and television host. He gained notoriety for his outspoken and progressive views on Islam and his critical stance on Pakistan, referring to himself as an "Indian born in Pakistan" and a "Punjabi born into Islam." He often expressed his support to the BJP-led NDA government in India.

The passing of Tarek Fatah was confirmed on Twitter by his daughter, Natasha Fatah.

He was also a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. Tarek Fatah was a highly decorated writer and commentator, receiving recognition from institutions like the Donner Prize and the Helen and Stan Vine Canadian Book Award. He was also a regular contributor to media outlets in Canada, India, and around the world.

Following his passing, social media was flooded with tributes and messages of condolences from individuals whose lives Tarek Fatah had touched throughout his career.
