But Jaya had her heart set on a young man named Srikant, a brave knight who had saved her life when she was a child. Srikant was not of noble birth, and so the king and queen disapproved of their love. They forbade Jaya from seeing Srikant, and sent him away from the kingdom.

Heartbroken, Jaya withdrew into herself and spent many long days locked in her chambers. One day, a mysterious stranger came to the palace. He claimed to be a magician, and offered to help Jaya win back her love. Desperate, Jaya agreed to his plan.

The magician cast a powerful spell that made Srikant forget all about Jaya. He fell in love with another woman, a noblewoman from a nearby kingdom. Jaya was devastated, but the magician comforted her and promised to make Srikant remember her love again.
