IPL 2023 has been quite interesting and exciting since the beginning of the tournament. According to the IPL 2023 schedule, it was started on 31st Mar 2023, but the final is something different. It was scheduled to be played on 28th May 2023, but due to heavy rain here in Ahmedabad(India), it was scheduled to be played on 29th May.
Gujarat Titans (GT), who was the defending champion of last year again entered into the final in this year as well.
On the other hand, the 4th time IPL winner Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well entered into the final to play against GT.
CSK won the toss and decided to bowl fist in the final IPL match happening in Narendra Modi Stadium and let the Gujarat Titans to bat first.
1st Innings:
Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill came as Opener to face the CSK bowlers.
In response to the bowling, they played very well and Wriddhiman Saha scored 54 runs in just 39 bowls with 4 fours and 1 six with 138.46 Strike Rate
He got out by Deepak Chahar bowling and caught by MS Dhoni
Shubman Gill scored 39 runs off 20 bowls with 7 fours and 195 strike rate and got out by Ravindra Jadeja and caught by MS Dhoni.
Sai Sudharsan played a superb innings and scored 96 runs off just 47 bowls with 8 fours and 6 sixes and 204.26 strike rate.
He scored maximum of runs in the death overs. Great player..
Captain Hardik Pandya remained not out and scored 21 off 12 bowls with 2 sixes and 175 strike rate.
Finally GT came to a very confident situation and managed to score 214 runs in 20 overs by loosing only 4 wickets.
Matheesha Pathirana took 2 wickets and Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja took 1 wickets each of GT.
2nd Innings:
In response to the huge 214 runs target, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway from CSK came to face the GT bowlers.
After only 3 bowls bowled, rain started and match was interrupted. This was a bad news for CSK fans.
GT was leading in the points table. If the match would not have resumed in 2 hours, then the GT team would have been declared as the winner of IPL .
It would have been very difficult for CSK to fight in the match since the CSK bowlers were so expensive and the fielding was also not impressive.
The prayers of the CSK fans were listened by God and rain stopped and using Duckworth Lewis method or rule the score was set as 171 runs in just 15 overs.
Though the target was huge, but there was still a hope to win, and CSK did a good start.
Ruturaj Gaikward scored 26 runs off 16 bowls by 3 fours and 1 six with 162.50 strike rate and then got out by Noor Ahmed and caught by Rashid Khan
Devon Conway scored 47 runs off just 25 bowls with help of 4 fours and 2 sixes and 188 strike rate.
He got out by Noor Ahmed and caught by Mohit Sharma.
Shivam Dube scored 32 runs off 21 bowls with 2 sixes and 152.38 strike rate and remained not out.
Ajinkya Rahane scored 27 off 13 bowls with 2 fours and 2 sixes and 207.69 strike rate and then got out by Mohit Sharma and caught by Vijay Shankar
Ravindra Jadeja and Captain MS Dhoni were playing together the last over. It was also a very special match since the captain cool was playing his last IPL match for CSK.
Jadeja hit a four on the last bowl which gave CSK the victory and he managed to score 15 runs off 6 bowls with 1 four and 1 six .
MS Dhoni didn't score any run and he played only 1 bowl and remained not out.
Congratulations CSK for the 5th time IPL champion and now equalled to Mumbai Indians (MI) who also won the IPL for 5th time !!!
Mohit Sharma took 3 wickets and Noor Ahmed took 2 wickets from GT against CSK.
Awards and Recognition:
Devon Conway became the Player of the match cause of the fierce 47 runs of 25 balls.
Yashsvi Jaiswal became the Emerging Player of the Tournament, cause of his 625 runs in 14 innings with strike rate of 163.61 and average of 48.08.
Shubman Gill is awarded the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament cause of 890 runs in 17 innings (3 centuries), with 157.8 strike rate and 59.33 average.
Mohammed Shami is awarded the Most leading wicket taker bowler of the tournament since he took 28 wickets with average 18.61 in 17 innings
Hardik Pandya received the runners up shield and cheque from Gujarat Titans perspective.
CSK Captain MS Dhoni along with Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu received the IPL 2023 Trophy and the whole team posed for team photograph.
