Baltimore Shooting Yesterday:
On Sunday, a mass shooting happened at an outdoor neighbourhood block party in Baltimore, Maryland. This act of violence has shaken the city.
Police received multiple calls after 12:30 A.M to 12:35 A.M. and when they arrived, they found that this tragic incident has caused 2 death and 28 people injured due to gunshot wounds. Out of these people injuries, around half of them are children.
Police only released the ages of the two victims, an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old male, who were killed in the hail of bullets. Aaliyah Gonzales, who was an 18-year-old woman identified as the victim was pronounced dead at the crime scene and Kylis Fagbemi, who was a 20-year-old was pronounced dead later at a local hospital.
According to local authorities, nine injured people were taken directly to the hospital from the crime scene with critical condition and were still being treated at hospitals as of Sunday afternoon, with around 19 other victims are being treated in various other hospitals in that area.
Officials Comments on Baltimore Shooting:
Richard Worley, acting commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, noted that they were still attempting to confirm the ages of the victims and that it was estimated that 14 of the 28 survivors who were hurt were under the age of 18.
The motive of the mass shooting is still not clear.
According to Worley on Baltimore shooting last night, Police are looking for all the suspects and also pleaded with the public to come forward with any information or footage that could identify the offenders.
Worley even said: "We know for sure there are more than one. We don't know how many (suspects), but officers are trying to determine how many.".
Mayor of Baltimore Brandon Scott stated at a press conference that "this was a reckless, cowardly act that happened here."
Mr. Scott further added: "We will not to stop until we find you and we will find you. Until then I hope that with every single breath that you take that you think about the lives that you took and you think about the lives that you impacted here tonight,"
He continued: "It again highlights the impacts and the need to deal with the over-proliferation of illegal guns on our streets and the ability for those who should not have them to get their hands on them and also of the need for accountability on each and every level when you're dealing with guns and gun violence,".
Maryland Governor Wes Moore said his administration is in touch with local officials and ready to provide assistance.
According to Baltimore's WBAL-TV, an NBC affiliate, the injured people's ages varied from 13 to 32.
Local Residents Reaction on Baltimore Shooting:
One local resident of the neighbourhood, Terry Brown said: "He was standing outside his home when he heard the crackle of gunfire.
It was chaos, parents were running around looking for their children, hollering and screaming, and don't know if their child has a bullet in them."
