Introduction :
After a severe accident happened in Balasore Bahanaga between Coromandel express, Yeshwanthpur Howrah and a Goods train on 2nd June 2023 evening. The accident was so severe and terrifying that 288 people were dead, around 400 people are majorly injured and 800 people were having minor injuries. This is for the first time to witness such a huge and heart wrenching train accident in Odisha history.
CBI Investigation :
The Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said to the press that the reason of the accident is found and the people responsible for the tragic incident are also identified. But in the evening, Govt has directed for the CBI Investigation on this case.
Now, CBI has reached to the accident spot to investigate the case from each and every angle. Govt might be thinking that someone might have done any changes to the electronics systems.
Reasons of Accident :
As per preliminary report, Railway board said the accident occurred cause of Signalling issue.
So, this is getting unclear that whether Govt or Railway Investigating board or railway board has actually found the actual root cause of the accident or not, whether they actually have found the involved culprits or not. If yes, why there is no declaration of the exact cause of the incident and the culprits details.
This is raising so many questions in people's mind. Many are thinking whether it is a crime committed knowingly or a conspiracy by any party or any organisation or it is a mere negligence by the loco pilot or the person responsible for giving the signal.
When enquired to the loco pilot of the Coromandel express train, he said the Signal was green for him to go in that track.
So the major question here is, Why Coromandel Express Train was given Green signal to go in a loop line where already a Goods Train was already standing in there?
Questions and concerns are now on in charge Station Master now since he is responsible for giving signal for stopping or letting the train go without any obstacles and obstructions.
Railway board also gave clean chit to the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot, since they had green signal to go in that route and train was with speed 128 km/hr since the approved Speed limit is 130 km/hr. Both of them are alive and getting treated in Bhubaneswar AIIMS.
Accident History of Coromandel Express :
Let'us remind you also that Coromandel Express Train was derailed 3 times with total 4 times accidents in last 21 years and including this incident, it becomes 5 times.
- In 2002, it derailed in Tamil Nadu because of poor track conditions.
- In 2009, it derailed in Jajpur, Odisha resulting 16 deaths and 161 injuries.
- In 2011, it derailed in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh resulting 32 deaths and several injuries.
- In 2012, a fire broke out in general compartment with no loss and no injuries.
One more important thing, both 2009 and 2023 train accidents happened on Friday.
Packages Declared :
Govt has declared a consolation package for the injured passengers and the families of the dead passengers. The amount of 10 lakh rupees is for the families or legal heirs of the dead passengers, 2 lakhs for the passengers having major injuries and 50000 rupees for the passengers with minor injuries.
Now, in Odisha, Govt is distributing the declared monetary packages to the victims.
Hospitals have handed over a discharge certificate to the victims or death certificate the family members of the dead passengers who claimed the body.
Those who are with minor injuries have to come in person to collect the consolation amount of 50000 with the discharged hospital and govt certificate along with a copy of Aadhar.
Those who are already dead, their legal heirs have to come in person to collect the consolation amount of 50000 rupees cash and 9.5 lakh rupees cheque by bringing the discharged hospital and govt death certificate along with a copy of Aadhar and legal heir proof along with a copy of bank passbook.
Many people have come from different states to get dead bodies or to meet their injured relatives.
There are still 59 dead bodies are to be claimed yest and are kept in the containers.
Those where the identification and claiming is becoming difficult, the hospital teams are doing the DNA tests to confirm the body.
It is becoming so difficult for the relatives also to search for the dead bodies since they are kept in different hospitals in different places.
This activity has started by Govt of India by not keeping any doubt in citizens that govt made promises but unable to make it. This is a very good and welcoming step.
One good thing finally is that restoration work is complete and many trains started operating on these tracks and routes.
