Coromandel Express accident - Train Operation restored and Goods Train Ran already, Balasore Train Accident

As you know the most train tragedy and severe accident happened between Coromandel express, Yeshwanthpur Howrah Express and a Goods train on June 2nd 2023 evening around 7 PM. This is so terrifying that it never happened in last 30 years of Indian History and 1st time in Odisha state history.

What Happened?

After the accident, around 15 coaches out of 18 coaches of Coromandel Express, around 2-3 coaches of Yeshwanthpur Howrah train were derailed and scattered in the accident site.

Due to this severe accident, 288 people are already dead and around 1200 people are injured (major and minor).

Along with that, the train tracks were also completely damaged and scattered here and there.

It took over 30 hours to rescue all the people and dead bodies out of the damaged coaches. Local people of Bahanaga village first recovered most of the people from there, and after 3-4 hours the local administration came, then NDRF, Indian army, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Social Helping Organizations etc came for help to rescue the victims and dead bodies.

Restoration Work:

Soon after that Railway department started working on the restoration of the railway tracks, to operate daily scheduled trains. Over hundreds people, cranes, Hydras, JCBs etc were working on restoring the tracks. Till the restoration of the tracks were complete, almost all the trains were cancelled and some trains were rerouted.

Update from Railway Minister:

Current Railway Minister (Ex IAS officer) continuously was monitoring the situation, tracking the progress on restoration.

He said the restoration of tracks work is complete but work is not yet done from our side. We have to ensure that the families of the victims receive their loved ones or their dead bodies.

He also said that the cause of the accident is also identified and the culprits are also identified. Let the Railway board and safety report to come.

Update from Rail Board:

Railway board also conducted a press conference and said that there is no overspeeding done by any of the trains involved here in the accident. The Speed limit in this route is set as 130 km/hr.

Coromandel Express train was in 128 km/hr and at the same time Yeshwanthpur Howrah train was in Speed of 126 km/hr. Goods train was standing in the loop line. So there is no question of overspeeding here. Bahanaga Station is also not the halting station for both of the trains. So, they were going with that Speed.

Exact Scenario of Accident:

All this accident happened cause of Coromandel Express train. There was green signal for the Coromandel Express for that route. First Coromandel express took the diversion towards the loop line. Since there was a goods train already standing there, it hit it immediately. The collision was so intense that the coaches were on the air due to the Speed of the train and 15 coaches were derailed immediately and fully damaged.

At the same time, Yeshwanthpur Howrah train was also coming from Bangalore to Howrah and crossing the station on the other side of the platform. But the accident was so severe that a few of Coramandel express coaches went to the other side and hit the last 2-3 coaches of Yeshwanthpur Howrah train. Due to this hit, the coaches were derailed too.

Finally, the conclusion of the incident is that there are huge losses to the people, families and govt due to this accident and all this happened because of a human error which gave green signal to Coromandel Express to go towards the loop line. Many families lost their loved ones and many are injured, possibly they would never be how they were earlier.

Govt lost a lot of revenue as well as damage to govt properties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Central Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the culprits won't be spared and would be punished for this huge loss.
